Policy briefing on Migrant access to the NHS
On 14 March the African Health Policy Network (AHPN) published a policy briefing on the Government’s proposals to extend charges for migrants using NHS services.
This briefing addresses the changes planned to migrant access to NHS services, as proposed in the Department of Health’s consultation ‘Sustaining services, ensuring fairness’ and their subsequent implementation plans, as well as the health-related aspects of the Immigration Bill.
The changes proposed are significant; for the first time A&E and GP services would be chargeable, and the categories determining who is exempt from charges would be redefined.
